Chapter Highlights: OCA-Wisconsin

On May 25, 2023, OCA - Wisconsin showcased their advocacy efforts of AAPI individuals at a public hearing in Madison supporting AB 232 for AAPI studies in K-12 education. The hearing featured over 40 testimonies from a diverse group, including many students, emphasizing the educational and identity benefits for AAPI youth. Participants traveled from various regions, including Milwaukee, Eau Claire, LaCrosse, Stevens Point, Oshkosh, and the Madison area, to voice their support. Additionally, written testimonies from those who could not attend, such as members of the Lao and Sikh & Muslim communities, were submitted. The community’s collective voice, along with Francesca Hong’s leadership, marked a significant step toward passing the bill.
