Washington, D.C. — OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates (OCA) New Jersey past president Virginia Ng, who dedicated decades of her life to serving OCA and the AAPI community, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at OCA’s 50th Anniversary National Convention July 12–16, 2023 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.

“All of us who knew Virginia Ng loved her for her spirit, her dedication, and her strength,” said OCA President Linda Ng. “She did more in her time on our board than almost any other member.”

“Virginia Ng is the epitome of what all of us in OCA strive to be - an effective, dedicated, and humane leader who made life better for her community," added OCA Director Thu Nguyen. "We cannot think of anyone more deserving for this award, and only wish she were able to accept it in person." Virginia Ng passed away in 2022.

Ng will be honored at the OCA Awards Gala on Saturday, July 15. Others receiving awards that night are NBC/MSBNC anchor Richard Lui, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju, NBA player Jeremy Lin, TV and film actor Tamlyn Tomita, and the Japanese American Citizens League.

Virginia Ng served two terms as president of OCA’s New Jersey chapter. She was the chair of OCA’s 2016 convention, held in New Jersey, and served as OCA’s National VP of Finance and the National VP of Chapter Development. Ng was an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, and led five different Girl Scout troops.

The awards gala is only one part of the five-day OCA National Conference. Other highlights include OCA Day on the Hill on Thursday, as well as three town halls that will highlight coalition building, equitable access to healthcare and well-being, and civic engagement. Notable speakers for these town halls, and over 20 breakout sessions, include Deputy Assistant to the President and AANHPI Sr. Liaison Erika Moritsugu, Journalist Helen Zia, Professors Janelle Wong and Xiaoxing Xi, author Curtis Chin, and many other government officials, community and academic leaders, and youth organizers.

The conference is free and open to the public. RSVP is encouraged to reserve your seat, and full-package registrations to access the Friday evening concert and Saturday night Awards Gala are available online at www.ocanationalconvention.org.
