Behind the Cover
By Candace Jay Cang
When I was thinking of creating a magazine cover to celebrate OCA's 50th anniversary, I reflected on the beauty of history within OCA. Considering OCA's work and the organizing rooted in empowerment and activism, I aimed to capture a sense of community while conveying a sense of history and reflection. The cover features a cluster of people inserting cassette tapes into a record player, each tape representing a throwback to a significant moment in OCA's history. I hoped to illustrate how history is embedded in its people and how the OCA community anchors this celebration. This cover also has a retro vibe, and the player is adorned with stickers that symbolize many of OCA's programs and achievements, celebrating both reflection and the anniversary.
