APIA-U: Leadership at UVSA Gulf Coast

APIA-U: Leadership is an interactive college leadership training program for AAPI college students that focuses on self-awareness, team-building, and direct action organizing. Participants will be asked to challenge themselves, share their experiences, and develop leadership tools in order to effectively serve as catalysts for change. This program is free, though registration is required.

UVSA Gulf Coast is hosting a APIA-U: Leadership training across multiple weekends, with each weekend focusing on a different topic. These are all virtual trainings hosted via Zoom. Please RSVP using the form below. You will be emailed the Zoom link to attend the training before the day of the event.

Training 1: Saturday, October 9

Time: 3 PM CT - 4:30 PM CT

Topic: Situational Awareness Workshop

In response to the increased rise of Anti-Asian/American, xenophobic, harassment, and anti-hate towards marginalized communities of color, OCA is providing educational and awareness tools to combat these types of systemic oppression. This Situational Awareness Workshop (SAW) is an interactive training to teach people on how to be a confident and effective bystander against racism and discrimination. At the end of the training, each participant will have the tools to be able to intervene as a bystander whenever they see or experience harassment.

Training 2: Date TBD

Topics: Racism & Anti-Blackness; History of Anti-Asian Violence

In the Racism and Anti-Blackness Workshop, participants will learn the ways in which racism is present in society, how anti-Black racism, specifically, is perpetuated, sometimes without us realizing it, and how to become effective allies to the Black community.

In the History of Anti-Asian Violence Workshop, participants will learn how anti-Asian violence has been perpetuated all throughout U.S. history—that this type of hate is not new.
