Washington, D.C. – OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates launches national working group in response to the Justice Department Civil Rights Division’s reported efforts to investigate whether colleges are discriminating in the way they use race for admissions purposes. The working group will be in charge of strategic planning to combat mobilization of anti-affirmative action groups. “We are concerned that the Justice Department’s investigations will prevent the consideration of race in college admissions. White women and Asian Americans have been the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action programs. We have an obligation to ensure that that opportunity continues to exist for other under-represented communities, including Southeast Asians and Pacific Islanders, who have some of the lowest rates of educational attainment among all racial groups,” said Vicki Shu, OCA Vice President of Public Affairs. “As such, OCA has created a national working group to combat attempts to weaken affirmative action. The group will focus on efforts that manipulate Chinese American narratives to attack these programs. OCA has always supported affirmative action, and we remain committed to ensuring that all Americans have access to quality higher education.” Vicki Shu (she has a Chinese name) 表示。 “)
