Washington, D.C. OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates announced Kevin Yi as the 2023 recipient of the S.Y. & S.F. Fung Public Service Scholarship, awarding $2,000 to the graduate student to support his pursuit of a career in public service.

Kevin Yi is a second-generation Korean American studying health and international development at the Harvard Kennedy School and the MIT Sloan School of Management. He has previously served as a National Policy Advisor to the Cambodian Ministry of Health, focusing on COVID-19 testing and HIV disease management as part of the Clinton Health Access Initiative; Associate Board Member for the Korean-American Family Service Center in Queens, New York, focusing on preventing and ending domestic violence in the Korean community writ large; and Founder of the MAP SAT program, providing free tailored test preparation and 1:1 college entrance coaching to economically disadvantaged, minority high school students across New York City. Kevin hopes to serve in local government related to public health and to one day run for public office.

Established by Anthony Fung, a former Deputy Secretary of Technology for Virginia, the scholarship fund provides $2,000 to support a student who is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration or a related field and who has a passion for public service. The scholarship aims to inspire more engagement and leadership from Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the fields of politics, advocacy, and government.

“In the scholarship’s second year, we were delighted to witness continued strong interest,” says Fung, “showcasing a need for opportunities like this within our community to embark on educational paths in public service and public health. These individuals are poised to kickstart careers dedicated to bolstering and serving our communities.”

OCA congratulates Kevin Yi on his outstanding accomplishments and wishes him all the best in his endeavors.
