Tracing Your Ancestry
Speaker Amy Chin
Friday, July 22
1:45 PM – 3:00 PM Liberty II
Learn how to uncover your Chinese-American family’s past in Chinese Exclusion Act* case files, census data, municipal records, news archives, oral histories, Chinese genealogy books and even jail ledgers. After discovering a trove of old family documents in her late mother’s belongings, Amy Chin began what she calls her ‘journey to unforgetting’ by researching and piecing together her family’s immigration story. In 2014, the New York Historical Society turned that story into a graphic novel for their exhibition "Chinese American Exclusion/Inclusion” which is now traveling the country.
