Our Broken Immigration System

Everyday we see national headlines with negative rhetoric depicting undocumented immigrants as law-breaking, illegal aliens. This rhetoric is un-american, we know the United States to be a country of immigrants. This seminar will discuss the landmark immigration case Texas vs. United States, what will happen to 5 million families if they are not granted deferred action from deportation? What can you do to help fight toward more just Immigration Reform. The fate of 5 million immigrant families rest in the hands of the Supreme Court.
About the Speaker
Carlene Pinto is the Immigration Campaign Manager for the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC). Ms. Pinto organizes campaigns on a federal and statewide level. Carlene works with national and local partners to help change the perception and policies that have created the injustices of our current immigration system. Carlene focuses on grass roots organizing, creating resources and opportunities for immigrant communities and focusing on civic engagement, community education, and capacity building.
