Since 1979, Miriam Yeung has been a member of OCA at four different chapters: OCA-Greater Denver, OCA-Long Island, OCA-Greater Chicago and OCA-Fairfield County, CT. She has been a chapter OCA member, chapter OCA board member, chapter OCA officer, chapter president and now national Executive Council member.
She is the current National Vice President of Communications. For two 2-year terms, Miriam served as the National Vice President of Public Affairs and she served one 2-year term as the National Vice President of Education and Culture.
Miriam serves on the Board of the national professional organization, ConnTESOL, the Connecticut affiliate of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), based in Washington D.C. assisting in the annual November conference. Miriam held the position of Treasurer on the ConnTESOL Board for five years.
Miriam also serves on a Board of another non-profit organization, Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC) of Connecticut as the Events Committee Chair planning the Lunar New Year Reception at the Legislative Office Building (LOB), Capitol in Hartford, CT and the Annual Gala during Asian Pacific American Heritage month in May. The original aim of APAC was to help form the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission which was created in 2008 by an act of the Connecticut General Assembly. This 21 member bipartisan commission oversees matters concerning the Asian Pacific American population in Connecticut.
Ms. Yeung received her BA from Queens College, City University of New York with a double major in Asian Language & LIterature and Elementary Education, a MA from Teachers College, Columbia University majoring in TESOL and Education Law. Her educational sixth year degree in school administration is from Long Island University, CW Post, Brookville, NY.
Professionally trained and worked as an educator since 1974, Miriam is currently an Assistant Principal at a PK-8 school in Hartford Public School for the third year.
Miriam is married to Horatio, Quest Diagnostics Consultant and have two sons, Nelson (33), from Scottsdale, AZ and Winston (31) from San Jose, CA.
