RESOLUTION TO HONOR CONGRESSMAN ROBERT UNDERWOOD
  
WHEREAS   Congressman Robert A. Underwood having served five terms in House of Representatives, has left his Congressional seat to run as a nominee for Governor of Guam; and

WHEREAS   Congressman Underwood has demonstrated exemplary service toward the advancement of Asian Pacific Americans. As a champion of Asian Pacific Islander causes he introduced legislation promoting educational empowerment. This legislation would not only improve the experiences of Asian Pacific Islanders but would enable grants to be eligible for educational institutions with Asian Pacific American populations. His expertise has also been beneficial towards the committees he has served on such as the Subcommittee on Military Readiness, Military Installations and Facilities, the subcommittee on Fishers Conservation.  He also served as a ranking member on the Morale Recreation and Welfare Panel; and 

WHEREAS   Congressman Underwood’s accomplishments in Congress has benefited greatly toward the Asian Pacific American Community and his decision to run as Governor of Guam will further build on the foundation he has laid; and 

WHEREAS   Congressman Underwood’s decision as a Governor nominee is highly supported by the Asian Pacific Community and deserves the support of a highly diverse group of peoples as well as Asian Pacific Islanders. 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Organization of Chinese Americans is fully supporting Congressman Underwood in his nomination as Governor of Guam, and hopes his success in Congress will follow him during the election.

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Organization of Chinese Americans commends Congressman Underwood for all his efforts to fight for issues that affect the rights and lives of Asian Pacific Americans.
