RESOLUTION ON POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS
Passed by the OCA National Board
March 9, 1997

Whereas, Asian Pacific Americans are entitled to full participation in the American political process;

Whereas, the Organization of Chinese Americans supports comprehensive campaign finance reform legislation;

Whereas, such legislation must, at a minimum, provide for correction of the abuses occurring in the areas of soft money and independent expenditures; and

Whereas, some political leaders and the media have neglected to distinguish between the legitimate overall political activity of the Asian Pacific American community and the alleged wrongdoing and improprieties of a few individuals;

Now be it therefore resolved that, the Organization of Chinese Americans rejects the notion of scapegoating the Asian Pacific American community in the name of campaign finance reform;

Be it resolved that, the Organization of Chinese Americans calls for political leaders and the media to avoid stereotypes and careless generalization;

Be it also resolved that, the Organization of Chinese Americans supports the continued right of legal permanent residents to donate political contributions as allowed under current law; and

Be it further resolved that, the Organization of Chinese Americans calls for the President and the United States Congress to enact comprehensive campaign finance reform legislation.
