Asian Pacific American A M P D
Advocacy - Mentoring - Pride - Democracy

A 9 month program designed for the Asian Pacific American (APA) rising high school juniors who are on a college preparatory track to receive developmental mentoring and to participate in individual as well as group learning activities. The first generation pre-collegiate API students will be paired with adult mentors who will volunteer at least 1 – 2 hours per month to engage in helping dialogue to explore current and future issues of interest, i.e. navigation/negotiation strategies based on social identity, career/personal development planning, personal branding, networking, and leadership. Additionally, the mentoring pairs will conduct a community needs assessment together to identify key advocacy opportunities to address social justice issues. The service learning component of this program will seek to provide the participants in hands-on civic engagement and advocacy as a team in partnership with other mentoring participants.
