Chapter Advancement Track

Forging Ahead: Legacy, Advocacy, Activism
Westin Jersey City Newport | Jersey City, New Jersey
July 21, 2016

The Chapter Advancement Track (CAT) is an academy style capacity building program that provides on-ground leaders within the OCA advocacy network training opportunities in order to build and sustain our chapters across the country.

The CAT is based on three main components: Awareness, Skills Building, and Action drawing from tried and true experience of our national network of leaders. Under Awareness, participants will collectively reflect what it means to exercise leadership as it relates to advocacy, community building, and empowerment. As participants transition from personal reflection to chapter assessment, leaders will focus on the connection between the individual leadership and strategy planning to address Chapter development.

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Workshop 1 – Bringing it Home.

Speakers: Deborah Chen, Caroline Fan

Continental breakfast will be provided*

Sometimes the best strategies are those that have been created by our own chapters! So why look any further than your fellow colleagues from across the country. This workshop will focus on the development of our chapters in the areas of fundraising, programs, membership, and event planning. Our goal is to help chapters identify what is their strong suit and what areas they may need assistance in. By the end of this workshop, we hope to inspire our chapters to set new goals and to try and grow in new capacities.

12:00 – 1:30 PM | Lunch on your own

1:30 - 4:00 PM | Workshop 2 – The Future is Now

Leadership is the key to success. This workshop will outline the best practices for succession planning as well as how to identify and cultivate leaders. By focusing on the core of your chapter, this session will aim to educate chapters on how boards function as well as different leadership styles and the importance of team work through team building exercises.  Build comradere with your fellow chapters and learn to grow from within!

*Chapters who attend the full day session will be entered to a Southwest voucher*
