WASHINGTON, D.C. – OCA, a national organization dedicated to advancing the political, social, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), is pleased with President Obama’s recent judicial nomination of Sri Srinivasan to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
"We applaud the Administration for its commitment to diversity and inclusion on par with appointing an exceptional legal practitioner such as Mr. Srinivasan,” Executive Director of OCA, Tom Hayashi. "Such an appointment reflects our commitment as a country to employing talent of highest quality in the most important positions from the diverse APA community.”
Born in Chandigarh, India, Mr. Srinivasan immigrated to the United States as a child and went on to attend Stanford University as an undergraduate and graduate student. After graduating with honors, Mr. Srinivasan became a law clerk for Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit and clerked for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Within the private sector, he was an associate at O’Melveny & Myers LLP and later became a partner in 2007.
Mr. Srinivasan has dedicated much of his professional career to the United States Solicitor General’s Office where he initially served as a Bristow Fellow and later became the Assistant to the Solicitor General. He has served as Principal Deputy Solicitor General since August 2011.
"We are very fortunate to have someone of Mr. Srinivasan’s caliber to have the desire to serve our country on the bench,” says Hayashi.
OCA is pleased with the leadership of the Obama administration for their nomination and continued support of APAs serving in the United States judicial system. It is with the utmost importance that court districts represent a diverse community as APAs are the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States. We strongly urge Congress to confirm Mr. Srinivasan through a commitment to our principles and community.
