OCA Expresses Condolences to Family of Matt Fong

Matthew Kipling Fong, former California state Treasurer, passed away at the age of 57 on June 1, 2011 after a long bout with skin cancer. OCA expresses its sincere condolences to Fong’s mother, March Fong Eu (the 25thSecretary of State of California), his wife Paula, and his two children Matthew II and Jade.
Fong, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, was the Vice Chairman of California’s State Board of Equalization from 1991 to 1994 and was elected as state Treasurer in 1994. He was later appointed chairman of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation Advisory Board by President George W. Bush.
He earned a master’s degree in business administration at Pepperdine University, where he served on the board of regents until his death, and a law degree at Southwestern University School of Law (now known as Southwestern Law School).
