|Intern Alumni Convention Roundtable and Travel Scholarships
Dear OCA Intern Alumni,
Good Afternoon! My name is Mia Youhne, class of 2001 OCA Intern and current OCA National VP of Communications. As many of you remember, summer means OCA National Convention and this year, OCA Houston will be hosting the 2010 OCA National Convention in Houston, Texas from June 17th to the 20th. This year’s convention theme is entitled, "Diverse Communities- United Commitment.” This year’s convention will bring together individuals and families representing diverse communities to embrace a united commitment to social justice and we would love to have you attend convention and be part of this celebration.
As an alumni myself, I find myself wondering what would make former interns come back to OCA and be part of this organization. We all appreciate the opportunities OCA has provided us and we are ever so grateful. However, what would make us come back as an OCA member? Every year, OCA National hosts convention, but what value does it have for past OCA interns? We are on a major push to get alums to become a strong voice for OCA National.
As many of you have voiced, OCA National needs to create avenues in where we are able to connect with other intern alumni and together brainstorm ways in which we can take a larger role in OCA as past alums. This year, "OCA Intern Alumni Roundtable Focus group” will allow us to do this. This focus group will be held on Saturday from 2:30 – 4:00 PM in the West Alabama room during convention.
By attending this roundtable, you will be able to:
As an incentive to attend, OCA is providing travel scholarships for intern alumni that will include a Southwest voucher and two nights at the Westin Galleria hotel (Friday and Saturday). To apply for the scholarship, please complete this form by 6 PM EST on Monday, May 31.

- Brainstorm ways in which alumni can take a larger role in OCA,
- Suggest ways OCA can stay connected with intern alumni,
- Voice what alumni are looking for from OCA; and,
- Suggest ideas for how alumni can be incorporated in future conventions.
Thank you once again and we would love to hear from you! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. I look forward to meeting you at this year’s convention in Houston, Texas.
OCA National Vice President of Communications
