OCA-GH BEGINS APA VOTER INITIATIVE PROJECT

The OCA Greater Houston Chapter will hold a FREE Voter Registrar Deputation in the Board Room of the Chinese Community Center (9800 Town Park Dr, Houston, TX 77036) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2006 to kick off its Asian Pacific Islander American Voters’ Initiative Project.   

Voter Registrar Deputation attendees will be deputized as Voter Registrars for Harris County. Though the event is targeted at the APIA Community, any person who is over the age of 18, is eligible to vote in Harris County, and wishes to perform voter outreach in his or her community is encouraged to attend. OCA-GH volunteers will also staff a voter registration table at Hong Kong City Mall on the weekends of September 30 – October 1, 2006 and October 7 – 8, 2006 (hours 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays).  On Election Day, November 7, 2006, OCA-GH volunteers will perform poll monitoring and exit polls to ensure compliance with election rules and language access laws.  

Volunteers are needed for these events, particularly those proficient in Vietnamese-English and Chinese-English interpretation.  

Founded in 1973, OCA is a national, non-partisan 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. Our goal for the Voters’ Initiative is to empower traditionally underrepresented Asian Pacific Islander American voters.
