Advocates Monthly: December 2015

Happy Holidays from OCA Staff

Dear OCA family,

With the holiday season coming to an end, we would like to say thank you to all our loyal subscribers and advocates nationwide who make the work we do worthwhile.

In the next year, we plan to take steps to make our organization even better byexpanding and increasing our involvement in key legislative areas including higher education, telecommunications, voting rights, and immigration. We will expand our reach and the scope of our civic engagement so that Asian American and Pacific Islander voices are truly heard in this important election year. We also plan to reach even more students and young professionals with our signature leadership and training programs so that we can help foster the next generation of leaders.

We have all traveled across the country to visit with diverse individuals from across the country that have welcomed us even though we may never have crossed paths before. What we share in common with those wonderful people and yourselves is a vision that through our work we can become a better, stronger, and more self-aware community. Without you behind us, our work would be without a purpose and it would be impossible to continue to grow and enhance our organization.

We wish you a happy holidays filled with friends, family, and food and thank you for your support and dedication to the cause of embracing the hopes and aspirations of all Asian Pacific Americans. Please consider donating HEREso we can meet our $50,000 match before December 31st.

And again, thank you. You have not only given us more than a job or vocation, but a purpose to fulfill.

The OCA Staff

There is still time to give!

We are almost to our goal of $50,000 that is matched until December 31. Help be a part of OCA's success in 2016!

Asian Americans Rally Against Anti-Muslim Hate

We joined with the the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and many other Asian American and Pacific Islander advocacy groups to condemn the recent rise in anti-Muslim hate.

Set against the backdrop of Memorial to Japanese-American Patriotism in World War II, speakers cited Asian Americans many experiences with legalized discrimination both in the past and present and resolved to fight so that they never occur again. See video of our representative Nick Lee, OCA Communications Associate HERE.

OCA / APAICS / NCAPA / AT&T Holiday Party

We recently joined with our community partners at Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) and the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) to celebrate the holidays and our accomplishments as a community this past year. This celebration was made possible by our gracious hosts at AT&T so we thank them for making this opportunity to celebrate possible!
