WASHINGTON, D.C. – OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates applauds the landmark confirmation of Loretta Lynch.

Yesterday, Loretta Lynch was confirmed by the Senate as Attorney General, 56-43. She is the first African-American woman to serve in this position. While Lynch was confirmed by a majority, many Senators opposed her confirmation due to her support for President Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

“We were proud supporters of Ms. Lynch’s confirmation and look forward to working with her as Attorney General to help protect the civil rights of Asian Pacific Americans. This is a historic moment for our country. A woman of color serving as attorney general was something that would have been unimaginable a generation ago,” said Michael W. Kwan, OCA National President. “While we are glad that the Senate overcame their differences and confirmed her nomination, it deserves to be said that, regardless of race or gender, Ms. Lynch is a well-qualified appointee and more than five months is far too long to wait for her confirmation. The fact that some Senators opposed her nomination simply because she supported the President’s executive actions on immigration is truly a shame.”

OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates is a national organization of community advocates dedicated to improving the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs).
