WASHINGTON, D.C. – OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates, a national membership-driven organization of community advocates dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), applauds the appointment of Jenny R. Yang to serve as the Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Jenny Yang is the first Asian Pacific American to serve as the Chair of the EEOC and was named as such by President Obama on September 1, 2014. The EEOC is the government agency that works to ensure job applicants and employees are not discriminated against because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

“OCA applauds President Obama for appointing Jenny Yang as the Chair of the EEOC,” said Ken Lee, OCA National Acting CEO. “Ms. Yang is a distinguished figure in both the civil rights and Asian Pacific American communities. She is an excellent candidate, and her appointment is monumental for diversity and the APA community.”

Yang has served in various private, government, and nonprofit roles throughout her career. She was formerly a partner at Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll, and before that, was a Senior Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Employment Litigation Section, among other distinguished career milestones. She received her B.A. from Cornell University and her J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
