OCA COMMENDS CONFIRMATION OF RAYMOND T. CHEN TO COURT OF APPEALS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates, a national membership driven organization dedicated to advancing the political, social, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), commends the United States Senate for approving Raymond T. Chen to serve as a judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The United States Senate confirmed Chen’s nomination to the serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit yesterday by a vote of 97-0. Chen is the first Taiwanese American to ever serve on the federal appellate court.

"We applaud President Obama for nominating Raymond T. Chen. And we commend our congressional leaders for their unanimous confirmation of Mr. Chen,” says Sharon M. Wong, OCA President, "His many years of service make him an exemplary candidate.”

Before serving as a judge on the US appellate court, Chen served as the deputy general counsel for intellectual property law and solicitor at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). During his time with UPSTO, he represented the agency in twenty different cases. Chen previously worked with the Federal Circuit before his role at the USPTO. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles and the New York City University School of Law. Since starting his career, Chen has received numerous awards for his work.
