WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW?
The purpose of this section is to keep everyone apprised on the Census process. Keep checking back for updated information!

The U.S. Census Bureau is reminding everyone to turn in their Census forms by April 1st, 2010. The Bureau will visit unresponsive households starting May 1st. The agency plans to rally one million volunteers through its partner organizations to promote March to the Mailbox (M2M), a final effort to boost mail-back rates. OCA thanks all those who have filled and mailed back their Census forms!

  • Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano told lawmakers that the department is “committed to working with the Census Bureau” and will not interfere with the census. The Secretary assured legislators that personal census responses will NOT be shared with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and “will not be used for immigration enforcement purposes”.
  • The Census Bureau opened 30,000 Questionnaire Assistance Centers (QAC) and an additional 10,000 Be Counted sites. The QACs and Be Counted sites are offered in six different languages. For more information about the QACs and Be Counted sites please click here. Click on "Help Centers" and enter a ZIP code, city, or state to pull up an interactive map and sites nearest you.
  • Need Census materials for the AAPI community?  Go to Fill in Our Future to find information and translated materials.

Additionally, a new mapping website now provides online tools to help increase the accuracy of 2010 Census among hard-to-count communities, which allows the site to tailor outreach activities and messages to specific communities. For more information, or to view the interactive map, please visit Census 2010 Hard-To-Count Interactive Map.
