TBD November 2008, South Texas College of Law Co-sponsoring a seminar with the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA), and hosting a film screening/discussion session on Vincent Chin and hate crimes prevention.

Nationally, Asian Pacific Americans are the fastest-growing targets of hate crimes. OCA Greater Houston is organizing a series of 3 different free seminars targeting 3 separate populations of APIA high school students, college students, and working adults. Professor Mark E. Steiner from the South Texas College of Law will address how the rise of the passive model minority stereotype of Asian Pacific Americans has consequently led to a rise in crimes against this community. He will also discuss how to recognize a hate crime and how these issues are defined by law.

Free copies of OCA's Responding to Hate Crimes: A Community Action Guide will be distributed.

This seminar series and the Hate Crimes Manual made possible with support from the Allstate Foundation.
