2009 They Serve with Honor Invitation

Dear Community Friend,

The OCA-Greater Houston Chapter (OCA-GH) will hold its 10th Annual "They Serve With Honor" Awards Reception on Friday, September 25th, 2009 at the American First National Bank in Asiatown on Bellaire Blvd @ Beltway 8. At this annual reception, OCA-GH honors outstanding Asian & Pacific Islander American (APIA) employees in our community; and will also feature the presentation of the OCA-GH Outstanding Community Achievement Awards to the actor James Hong, a noted leader of the APIA Hollywood Community for his work in creating opportunities for other APIAs in film and theater.

This special awards reception allows your company to showcase APIA employees' achievements in the workplace and allows us to show our appreciation for their efforts. Participation and nomination for this award signifies your recognition of the contributions APIAs have made in myriad fields and endeavors. All awardees are not only recognized at the gala, but also in our community magazine 4a and on our website. Additionally, our event is highlighted in several local APIA newspaper articles each year and we place announcements in the local papers with photos of the awardees to inform the community of their receiving this award and the companies they work for. We hope your company or organization considers nominating an outstanding APIA employee for one of our awards. The nomination form is enclosed and the application deadline is July 31, 2009.

Funds raised at this event go towards supporting our outreach and education programs that are part of the OCA-Greater Houston Advocacy Center. We organize education workshops and legal clinics and produce a pro bono legal resource directory that is distributed to various service agencies and community organizations. Nationally, our chapter was recently recognized for 2nd place 2008 Chapter of the Year and 2nd Place Chapter Excellence for the work of our Advocacy Center and with your generous support, we will continue to grow our programs and services for the community. While your company may or may not have a nominee for this year we hope your organization will consider supporting this innovative program by sponsoring the 10th Annual "They Serve With Honor" Awards Reception. Sponsorship information and details are also attached. We can work on a sponsorship level that your organization is comfortable with.

Please contact us at (713) 446-8430 or by e-mail at oca@ocahouston.org for more nomination information or to become a sponsor.

OCA, an organization of community advocates, is a national non-profit social justice, leadership, and education organization with over 80 chapters and college affiliates. While our aim is to embrace the hopes and aspirations of Asian Pacific Americans, our primary objectives are to promote active participation of APAs; secure equal opportunity and treatment of APAs; and eliminate prejudices and stereotypes.
